The Honours Programme and Credits
Whilst all of our courses can be taken individually, together they form a unique and integrated Honours programme. Taken as a whole, it offers the potential for a profound deepening of insight, understanding and engagement with astrology, and we encourage you to commit to the whole programme.
The programme is arranged in six Modules, each a topic area or lens through which to view, explore and engage with astrology. The first five Modules each contain one Core Course and the sixth is a Creative Project. The rest of the programme is made up of a selection of Elective Courses, most of which also fall naturally into one of the six key topic areas. Each Core Course is eight weeks long – Electives are typically four weeks.
Each Core Course attracts 40 credits, as does the Creative Project. Each four-week Elective attracts 20 credits; eight-week Electives attract 40 credits. To pass through the Honours programme and gain the certificate of completion, you must gain a total of 360 credits by completing the five Core Courses, the Creative Project, and your choice of Elective Courses. As part of the Elective options, our annual week-long live retreat (usually held in the UK) also attracts 40 credits.
This course is not the conventional type of training programme, based on the acquisition of techniques or being tested via written examinations. The course requires personal commitment, but its ‘credits’ evoke the amplifying and enlivening spirit of Jupiter rather than the proving spirit of Saturn. Acknowledging that we bring to astrology everything we are as an individual, and that much of what we do as astrologers cannot be directly taught, but is drawn from the deep wells of our own nature, its purpose is to support the personal and professional development of each student, in a creatively enriching environment.
Credits are available for courses studied with us prior to April 2026. Download the details here.
Each Course comprises a series of live discussion sessions (typically 90 minutes), accompanied by written and/or recorded course material, suggestions for reflective study, and suggested reading and resources. When you first enrol, you will also be given access to an Orientation Package – materials which you might need, or benefit from, as you embark on the programme.
You will be allocated one of the tutors as your Guide Tutor for Year 1, before moving to a different Guide Tutor for Year 2. Each Core Course includes a one-hour one-to-one Zoom session with your Guide Tutor. You will also meet with your Guide Tutor during the Creative Project.
We strongly encourage you to make every effort to attend all the live sessions in person. The CAMS ethos is centred on personal participation and interaction with tutors and fellow students. However, we appreciate that not everyone is able to do this, or not all of the time. Thus, you can still gain the credits for a course even if you cannot attend the live sessions – but you must attend the termly one-to-one session with your Guide Tutor and complete the coursework assignments and the Creative Project.
A small assignment will be included with each of the core courses, which you send to your Guide Tutor. Rather than receiving written feedback, the assignment will form part of the conversation with your tutor in the one-to-one guide session.
You are also encouraged to keep a personal journal throughout the programme (this can aid in the development of your final Creative Project – see the Syllabus & Core Courses page.
You do not necessarily need to lay aside time for reading or study between classes. However, there may be a set text to read, self-study exercises to engage with, or discussion topics to think about in advance of a live class. There will also be a suggested reading list with each course. The more you can engage with these, the more deeply the material will resonate and the more you will gain from the programme. Thus, you may like to set aside about 4 hours per week for reading and study outside of classroom time.
The programme is designed to be studied over two years. We would encourage you to begin with the Core Course for Module 1 (the programme’s signature course, Astrology & the Symbolic Imagination) and take the Core Courses in the suggested order. However, it is possible to join the programme at any stage.
NOTE: as stated above, if you do not wish to take the whole programme, you are free to enrol just on a single course (Core or Elective).
You can complete the programme over more than two years, if you need to pace yourself more slowly. We recommend however that you complete within three years – two years to take the Core Courses and some additional time to complete any remaining Electives needed for credits. If you have any questions about this, feel free to email us.
